About Higher Education & Access courses

Cardiff and Vale College offers a range of higher education courses in partnership with Welsh universities at a variety of levels from HND right up to post graduate study with the PGCE*.

We have strong partnership links with the University of South Wales, Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) and The Open University.

Our courses are taught in smaller group sizes, and students benefit from access to both college and university facilities, teaching and expertise.

Access Courses

Access courses allow you to further your education and gain the skills and qualifications to progress to higher level courses at university.

On an Access course, all students study core subjects including English, Maths, Study Skills and IT. You can then choose the other subjects you will to take, relating to personal interest, and the course you would like to progress to at university. The course also helps you develop the skills required for university study including assignment writing, presentation skills, project and portfolio work.

Access courses are not recognised as a qualification for work, so it's best not to choose this option if you don't intend to move on to higher education within two years.
