Cardiff and Vale College have been crowned champions at the inaugural Welsh Colleges Varsity after going head-to-head with Gower College Swansea over six sporting events.
In the one day of competition held on Friday 11th April across CAVC’s sporting venues, sporting fixtures including netball, boccia, basketball, ILS, women’s and men’s football were all fiercely contested with CAVC coming out victorious in four of the six events to see them take the overall title.
First up, Gower’s netball team took the first win of the day. CAVC then took the crown in the next three events – boccia, basketball and ILS football – putting them in the lead overall with the women’s and men’s football fixtures left to play. Gower College’s women took the win in their match, with the day ending in a 3-2 victory for CAVC’s men’s football team.
CAVC Senior Head of Sport, Tourism and Public Services, James Young, said “This inaugural Welsh Colleges Varsity event proved to be a great success and we’re of course delighted to have come away with the title. It provided a fantastic opportunity for sports teams from CAVC and Gower to play against each other and for other learners and colleagues to come along and see them in action.
We’re already looking forward to travelling to Gower next year to try and retain our title.”
