About this course

The UAL Level 3 in Fashion, is perfect for individuals who are interested in a career within the fashion industry. The course offers an insight to different aspects of fashion and textiles. With the support of specialist teachers, you will be guided through a range of different topics on the course which will help generate and develop the core skills necessary to grow your creative practice.

What you will study

This course includes:

- Research and contextual studies into fashion design

- Observational drawing, fashion illustration, and design sketches

- 2D and 3D mixed media and digital manipulation

- Fashion and textile exploration, covering fabric manipulation, printing, pattern cutting, draping, and garment construction

- Fashion communication, photography, fashion styling, and visual merchandising


Students will also benefit from:

- Practical experience through 'Live' projects connected to the industry

- Access to specialised facilities at the City Campus to support creative portfolio development

- Collaboration opportunities with local designers, artists, and businesses for real-world projects

- Encouragement to participate in competitions to enhance understanding of the fashion industry

- Organised visits to relevant exhibitions and fashion shows to enhance and strengthen portfolios


Alongside this, learners will study the Welsh Baccalaureate as an integral part of the programme. This includes weekly tutorial and e-tutorial sessions.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs A* - C or a Level 2 Diploma in this discipline at Pass grade or higher. English Language, Maths and an Art based GCSE are a compulsory requirement for the course (regardless of a level 2 qualification). You must provide a portfolio of work during your interview.

On successful completion of the one-year diploma (equivalent to 1.5 A Level), you will then have the opportunity to progress onto the Extended Diploma year. 
After completing the two full years of study, the course is the equivalent to 3 A Levels and can provide enough UCAS points to progress onto University.
