This AS Level is to be sat within a full-time A Level programme for students wishing to follow on from the GCSE Welsh Second Language qualification.
There are 3 Units to cover during the AS year.
Unit 1: Oral Examination
Section A will cover the topic of Discussing a Film
Section B will cover Personal Response
Unit 2: Non-examination Assessment
Involves writing 3 extended pieces, totalling 1500-2000 words on topics including:
The 3 pieces should be presented in 3 of the following formats:
Unit 3: The Use of Language and Poetry
Section A: A composite question which includes different types of linguistic exercises
Section B: 3 questions based on the prescribed texts.

Unit 1: Oral Examination - 15% of the A Level
Unit 2: Non-examination Assessment - Coursework 10% of the A Level
Unit 3: The Use of Language and Poetry – Written Paper 15% of the A Level

Beyond the A2 qualification, this is a suitable subject for any student wishing to study Wales or the Welsh Language at University, as well as a number of humanities and social science subjects including History, Geography, Politics and Media. This qualification will also support those seeking a place on a Welsh medium University Course.
