A2 Government and Politics follows on from AS and covers the following two units:

Unit 3: Representative Processes in the USA (written exam of 1.5hrs)

• Elections and Voting - a knowledge of the electoral system
• Political Parties - understanding traditions and ideologies
• Pressure Groups - a knowledge of different categories of groups and how they operate
• Race and Ethnic Politics - an understanding of racial diversity in the US

Unit 4: Governing the USA  (written exam of 1.5hrs)

• The Constitution - a knowledge of the principles and nature of the US Constitution
• Congress - an understanding of the roles and structures
• Presidency- an understanding of the formal and informal powers
• Supreme Court - a knowledge of the composition and role of the Supreme Court

Successful completion of AS programme including satisfactory attendance and tutor recommendation.

Two written exams
